So, my random thought today was about Capital Punishment or whatever it’s called. Ok. In Islam, we have different punishments for different crimes. The point of this post, or rather, the thought I had was: “Non-Muslims consider our punishments as some of the utmost cruelty, when THEIR way or punishing the offenders is by far one of the cruelest things ever thought of.” Think about it, like I did. In Islam, our punishment for murder is that the family of the deceased gets to choose between retaliation (an eye for an eye type thing) or having the murderer pay a whole lot of blood money. The punishment for theft is the cutting off of the hand that was used to steal (repeated offenders get the other one removed too, usually a good deterrent). The punishment if a person commits adultery is stoning to death, and if it’s a virgin who fornicated they get 100 ashes and are banished from the community for a year. I can’t remember all the crimes and their punishments but all these have in common are that they do not promote extreme suffering. Because even though the people who do these things are criminals and need to be punished, they are still human beings. Now, the way people are punished nowadays is cruelty. Prison, for example. I know several people who have gone to prison, so I have an idea what it’s like. And seriously, you think that caging people up like animals, taking their rights away, and leaving them for the majority or the rest of their lives in a place where the people have gone nearly mad for the lack of humanity is not cruel? The electric chair. AFTER they’ve been in prison for a while sometimes, the verdict is death by electric chair. Yes, they die, but it’s not quick and it’s extremely painful. Same as with the death by lethal injection. And hanging. All hangings aren’t quick. Sometimes it takes hours for the person to choke out and die. THESE punishments are all inhumane. In Islam, yes, the thief might lose their hand, but they are still alive, still free, still human. They might be whipped and banished, but the same goes. And for the greater crimes, like murder and adultery between married people, they die, but it’s in a more humane way than languishing in a prison cell for the rest or eternity. And what the hell is a double lifetime sentence anyway?? The world is seriously a crazy place. And they have the nerve to call us out?
Seriously? Shove it.
